Sears Grill's rust through-Defective grills being covered by Sears at no cost. See Link

If You've spent your hard earned money for a grill from Sears and had it rust through, burn through, as I did in less than two years there is hope.  See this article and hope it will help you get replacement burner box and tray.

I read a lot of complaints on line and everyone said they were given the run around by Sears.  After I had checked my grill and see the whole bottom rusted through to the cart below I made it my mission to get this replaced.  I kept looking on the internet after seeing the complaints and came across this News Story from Palm Beach Florida where Larry Costello from Sears said they were aware of the issue with grills and were taking care of replacing burner box and the repair itself.  I don't live in the service area so we will install it ourselves but today Sears advised it was covered and they were sending out the $380 part.  A new grill is only $399.00  I would have hoped they would have seen the advantage in just replacing the grill as it is $19 more than the part.  What great goodwill that would be but I'm happy with having them backup their product and send the part.

My grill is model 148.23683310.
the burner box is part number 2818-2T-2000-3 part number 19 on the diagram.

Here's what I did.  I called the parts number, 1-800-469-4663, don't waste your time with that number.  I spent 1/2 hour talking to an agent and he said it was covered but I needed to bring my grill to the store.  Forget that, it is direct line to gas and I wasn't about to do that.  If you're going to call direct call the defective department and Steven is the individual that handled my issue at 1-800-482-0131.

After talking to parts and given this information I went to the store yesterday and the clerk called parts first and was 45 minutes on the phone with them and he instructed her to call the 1-800-482-0131 where they were familiar with this and the coverage.  Steven told the clerk that it was covered but because of the cost of the part he had to get supervisor approval.  I received a call from the clerk at the store saying part was being sent to our home and also from Steven.  If I didn't have the article with the link I've attached I don't know that I would have had the same outcome as the clerk at the store knew nothing about this but the defective department knew and handled it.

Good luck hope this helps the 83 complaints I read online who said they got the run around and nothing one.  You just need to research and see information online.  I just happened to find this new article or I would have given up and bought another grill for $400.  http://www.abc15.com/news/national/firebox-in-sears-kenmore-grills-disintegrating-and-rusting-sears-now-making-changes
