School delayed opening-too cold!

Schools here in Charleston South Carolina delayed school and State government offices opening today because it is 8 degrees outside.  What the heck, no snow or anything.  I don't understand that at all. I grew up in the north and we didn't go to school later because it was cold. Maybe they don't want the kids waiting for the bus in the cold but most wait in their homes and only run out when the bus comes. 

Must be a southern thing and folks are tougher in the north????  

The cold will be short lived here. It will be 70 by Friday
